Chinese New Year 2009!!

Food Lovers wishes all a HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!

Gong Hei Fatt Choi and may this year bring health, wealth and happiness to all. :)

Aside from Christmas, I always enjoyed celebrating the Chinese New Year also referred to by many as the Lunar New Year. The festival begins on the 1st day of the first lunar month in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th. YEAPSSS! 15 days of celebration. :)

The normal tradition practiced by many Chinese would be purchasing new clothing, shoes, cutting your hair and etc that symbolize a fresh start in the New Year. Cleaning the home to wash away bad luck is also practiced by many. The important event of all is during CNY Eve where families travel from around the globe just to get together for a nice reunion dinner.

There is so much about this special festival.
  • Ang Pows a.k.a red envelopes
  • Lion dance
  • Fire crackers
  • Cookies
  • Gift exchange
  • SHOPPING!! Clothes – RED preferably
  • Gambling sessions
  • Food... Food... and more FOOD!

I’ll be away for a week travelling back to hometown at Kedah before making our way up North to Phuket. I just LOVE the long holiday break and leaving the stress and work behind. :) So much had happened recently and I just want to leave it all behind and enjoy the CNY break.

Shall blog again once I’m back the following week. Have a prosperous new year and may this year bring good, better and best things your way.

A Review at KFC – Say HELLO to KFC Zinger Tower

Location: KFC at KLCC

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Fast food; from the name given means that FOOD can be prepared and served very quickly. If you need something to go on a busy schedule, fast food joints are typically the easiest choice you can opt for.

The popular fast food joints you can find here at Malaysia are like the usual KFC, Mcdonalds, Burger King, Carl’s Jr and more with each having their distinct items the humans are craving for.

KFC with its all time favourite tag line – Finger Lickin’ Good you see all the time on advertorials has caught its fame among Malaysians here for their best in the town Kentucky Fried Chicken in original or spicy flavour.

Having conquer the chicken war, they are determined to gain further popularities with their burgers; coming up with different and interesting ideas of marketing their burger selections.

Tada!!!! KFC now introduced their new Zinger Tower with chili lime sauce, lettuce, Zinger fillet, cheese and hash brown all in one burger. With the amount of items mentioned all packed up in one burger you reckon the burger is larger compared to their regular chicken burger.

With my busy schedule with my foot always on the move, packing from KFC situated at the LG floor on KLCC is always an option. Instead of taking away fried chickens, I opted for their latest edition in the menu – KFC Zinger Tower meal.

The Zinger Tower burger is pretty similar with the regular Zinger burger you get at KFC except for a little modification with extra stuffs like the hash browns and chilli lime sauce. I reckon this is a much fuller meal due to the vast amount of stuff you get in one burger.

Having a hash brown in the burger was something pretty interesting to me since I love potatoes hence it completed my needs in one burger.

Overall the burger was good and something worth trying for the first time. Nevertheless for me I still love my all time favourite Kentucky Fried Chicken and Mash Potatoes at KFC.

Fine Dining Cuisine @ Cafe Cafe KL...

Address: 175, Jalan Maharajalela 50150 Kuala Lumpur

Fine dining restaurants generally have the following services and requirements:

  1. Dress Code: In most cases a fine dining restaurant will not permit jeans, t-shirts, hats and may even require a suit jacket and tie.
  2. Service: The service at a fine dining restaurant will generally be top notch. Expect each table to have no less than two servers directly responsible for it

  3. Menu: The menu at fine dining restaurants tends to be extremely classy with high quality ingredients and prepared by a well-known and talented chef with years of industry experience.

  4. Food - the portion will be small so expect to be less full than what you anticipated

  5. Price: Expect to pay a little (to substantially) more for the extra attention to detail.

Located on a busy cross-junction, Café Café is a slice of Paris in downtown Kuala Lumpur. A friend recommended me this place so one fine day I brought dearie to Cafe Cafe for a special treat on his special day.

Ambience was pretty good with dim lightings and chandeliers filled the place. Sumptuous dining in a classic European style; it is a rather refreshingly interesting place to meet friends, colleagues, or even a special acquaintance.

Generally I do not have much insights in fine dining food, hence deciding what to eat by judging on the menu was a tab bit harder. LOL! :P So the waiter recommended us the following selection below.

Cafe Cafe is generally popular mainly for its French and Italian meals.

The romantic ambience... :)

Escargots drenched in olive oil with slices of bread served...

Pan fried Cod Fish topped with mushrooms... I reckon the thick white sauce gravy complimented the fish giving it a rather satisfying taste....
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Foie gras (goose liver), which is one of Cafe Cafe's signature dish...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

A slice of Cheese Lemon tart to complete the meal... The right balance of sweet and sour. Lovely lemon custard and crutsy light tart base. :) Overall the food at Cafe Cafe was ok but pretty expensive... I think a one time experience there should be good enough :)

Gathering @ Kim Gary, The Curve....

Aww I just miss the good old schooling days at HELP University College.... We had our ups and downs together and being stressed out for assignments, projects and such.

The usual hang out place would be the mamak stall upstairs where we enjoyed our regular teh tarik drink and tosei masala...

Though we are all scattered across different places with different paths we’re destined to walk through, I’m surely glad we still kept in touch till this very day.

We finally met up with our old time buddy Evve at Kim Gary, The Curve when she came down from Singapore for a short visit.

The photos below pretty sums up our gathering that day before she headed off to the airport...

Cooking Spree in the Home...

Ok let's blog something different today.... I've accumulated a series of cooking spree we had at home... Well we are no big chefs hence if you're looking into some simple dishes at home, here are some choices....

At times instead of scratching the head thinking where and what to eat, you can opt for a decent meal at home knowing the fact it'll be clean and healthy. :)

Menu 1 - Steam chicken, stir fry udon noodles, adegashi tau foo

Ingredients:
Onion
Garlic
Soy sauce
Oyster sauce
Sesame oil
Dash or pepper
Chicken
Lettuce

It's good to opt for bony parts of the chicken to ensure the meat is more tender and soft after cooking. The steam chicken is a pretty easy dish.

1. Boil the chicken over slow fire and kindly make sure it's not over cooked.
2. On a separate pan heat up the oil and add in the onion and garlic
3. Estimate the soy sauce and oyster sauce and cooked it over slow fire too
4. Pour the sauce over the chicken
5. Ready to be served :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I prepared this easy stir fry black pepper udon with chicken, prawn, cabbage and some taugeh! LOL!

Ingredients:
Udon Noodles
Chicken Fillet
Mini prawns
Cabbage
A packet of black pepper sauce

1. Boil the udon noodles and remove the water
2. Heat up frying pan and add in the onion and garlic
3. Put in the chicken, prawns and etc
4. Open the pack of gravy and add in some water
5. Stir fry the ingredients with the sauce
6. Add in the noodles
7. Add in the vegetables
8. Ready to be served!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Dearie made the Japanese adegashi tau foo which I reckon was pretty good... :)

Ingredients:
Tau Foo
Seaweed
Spring onion
Soy Sauce
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tada a simple meal is ready! The preparation and cleaning up took up most of the time I guessed, else cooking dishes at home is quick and simple...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Menu 2 - Wantan Dry Noodles

One of our favorite items on the list... the dry wantan noodles... you can even make you own wantan dumplings - boiled or fried... hehe...

Ingredients:
Minced pork
Wantan skin
Wantan noodles
Garlic
Onion
Sesame oil
Oyster Sauce
Soy Sauce

My favorite dish... the dry wantan noodle he enjoys making so much.. LOL! You can opt to add in some shredded chicken if you wish...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Some stir fry chinese cabbage with fish cake to complete the meal... YUM!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Menu 3 - Mixed vegetables and Fried Rice with Ikan Bilis

Ingredients:
Assorted veges like peas, brocollis, and mushrooms
Prawns
Onion
Garlic
Soy Sauce
Oyster Sauce
A dash of sesame oil

Greens perfect for vege lovers like me! :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Ingredients:
Japanese rice
Eggs
Garlic
Onion
Ikan Bilis
Prawns
Bacon

He reckons fried rice is the easiet dish you can prepare at home. Using Japanese rice was a great option.... topped it with crispy ikan bilis to perfect everything! Weee....

1. Cook some rice...
2. Stir fry the ikan bilis and remove it to a plate
3. Fry the onions and garlic till golden brown and add in ingrediets of your choice - like bacon, meat, prawns, luncheon meat or chicken
4. Pour in the rice
5. Add in the vegetables
6. Add in the eggs
7. Stir fry a little before serving and topped it with ikan bilis

Thai FOOD @ Amarin Thai, Mid Valley Megamall...

Address: Lot S045, Level 2, Mid Valley Megamall, 59200 Kuala Lumpur

AMARIN HEAVENLY THAI is a classy restaurant located at Mid Valley Megamall.

Antique carvings, Buddhist statues, large pots, fountains and wooden furniture filled the place so you feel as though you were transported back to Thailand.

Amarin is part of a group that includes Bangkok Jam at Plaza Low Yat and The Old Siam along Tengkat Tong Shin in the Bukit Bintang area.

So bestie organized a get together at Amarin Thai for some authentic Thai Food. Food here are rather expensive hence do expect to fork out extra $$$ if you're dining there. I reckon the food wasn't that fantastic, guess you're paying more for the dining atmosphere.

Staters we had the Special Mix Combo that came with assorted fried stuff like fish cake, spring rolls, rice cake, dumplings and more to share..

Dessert Time at Ji De Chi (记得吃) @ Singapore...

After some shopping at Bugis, we headed to Ji De Chi” (JDC), translated as ‘remember to eat’ in Mandarin, a place serving a variety of sweet desserts; very similar to the ones you get at Kei Tak Sei (KTZ). JDC is situated opposite Bugis Junction at some shoptlots outside...

JCD serves the typical desserts from Sesame Paste, Almond Paste, Walnut Paste, Red Bean Paste and even Yin-Yang (a black-white combination of sesame and almond paste). The price is very reasonable at about $2.00 - $4.00 for a bowl.

Oh by the way.... it's 2 weeks and counting down to Chinese New Year!!!!

I have not finished my shopping list below except the jeans:
  • Jeans - checked
  • RED top to go with the jeans
  • Shoes
  • A set of nice lingerie

Christmas Eve 2008 @ Singapore....

Here's the post on the trip down to Singapore. We were there to spend the Christmas Eve and day with friends lazing around the island doing nothing much except for eating and shopping. :)

My 2009 most important resolution of all - TO SAVE MONEY!!!! Don't you just agree one can never have enough but just demanding more and more? :P

Furthermore I have to save up for 2 big trips this year... *faints* talking about financial planning eh? But I still have to spend some cash on CNY shopping which is yet to be completed yet. tsk tsk...

Anyway the White Christmas at Singapore was simply great, much beautiful than Malaysia but I reckon everything from food to shopping to hotels were so expensive after the exchange rate. It will be a long time more before we decide to visit Singapore again.... :)

The first breakfast meal we had - dry Wantan Noodles which was a huge dissapointment... LOL! :P thank god we ordered only one to share...

Weddings in 2008!!

The first day on the month is gone and now the clock is once again ticking fast....as fast as the rate of your heart beats each second. Before you even know it, Chinese New Year would be here and gone. Need to start doing my CNY shopping soon.

Getting back to work today was the hardest thing ever. Your mind is all over the place, you’re still exhausted from all the holidays and you just feel like dozing off after lunch.

How I wish the holidays would just never end? I always dreamt of backpacking and travel around the world one day with nothing to worry about; just going somewhere and anticipating the excitement of the journey that awaits me. Thinking ahead of the future and thinking hard where will I be down the road is a scary thing...

*slaps face* Ok I think it’s time for me to wake up now and stop procrastinating. LOL!

Anyway here are more wonderful photos of wedding dinners I attended last month in December 2008. Having the pleasure to be part of good friend’s big day is a wonderful thing as you see nothing but smiles and laughter all the way. :)

Congratulations once again my dear Dede :)

Dinner was held at Ah Yat Abalone Restaurant near PJ that serves pretty good Chinese FOOD. I wasn't expecting much of a good food during weddings but this place was pretty good...
